Embedded Systems Engineer

Make the full KANATA pipeline run on hardware that fits in a pack. Edge-native isn't a feature, it's the whole point.

Job description

KANATA is designed to operate at the tactical edge without cloud dependency, on hardware that is small, power-efficient, and ruggedised for field conditions. As Embedded Systems Engineer, you will own the performance, power, and reliability of the KANATA pipeline on edge compute platforms. You will work at the boundary between software and hardware, optimising every layer of the stack, from OS configuration to model inference, to meet the latency, power, and reliability requirements of real-world CAF operational environments.

What will you do?

Own the deployment and optimisation of the KANATA software stack on NVIDIA Jetson Orin and equivalent edge compute platforms. Profile and optimise pipeline performance, CPU, GPU, memory, and power, to meet <100ms end-to-end latency targets under SWaP constraints. Implement and maintain hardware abstraction layers for sensor interfaces across multiple hardware configurations. Build robust operation in degraded and denied connectivity environments, local caching, graceful degradation, reconnection logic. Develop automated testing and validation frameworks for edge hardware deployments. Work with the security team to implement hardware-level security features, secure boot, encrypted storage, tamper detection.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years in embedded or systems software engineering
  • Hands-on experience with NVIDIA Jetson platform family:TX2, Xavier, Orin
  • Strong C/C++ skills with experience in performance-critical systems programming
  • Experience with real-time operating systems and latency optimisation
  • Familiarity with hardware security features: TPM, secure boot, encrypted storage
  • Experience with field-deployable ruggedised hardware is a strong asset
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency required
  • Security clearance eligibility required
